SANDAKAN: A youth suffered serious injuries after the mini bus he was traveling in crashed into the rear of a garbage truck at Jalan Leila yesterday.

The accident occurred at about 7.05am in front of Bandar Ramai-Ramai as both vehicles were heading towards the direction of Tanah Merah.

The mini bus with only the driver and another front seat passenger was apparently travelling too fast.

The driver failed to brake in time to avoid crashing into the back of the garbage truck. The impact ripped open the left front side of the mini bus.

Two bystanders carried the injured youth from the wrecked bus and put him on another mini bus to be sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital.

The drivers of both vehicles involved in the crash were unhurt.

It was a tense moment shortly after the accident as a few men threatened to beat up the garbage truck driver with an iron rod in the presence of a large crowd that had gathered at the scene.

They confronted the garbage truck driver but were stopped by several bystanders from advancing further.

The situation was later defused by policemen who arrived at the location after being notified of the accident.

When contacted, OCPD ACP Rowell Marong advised members of the public not to take the law into their own hands.

“Let the police investigate the matter,” Rowell added.

So remember be careful when driving.....check you car before you drive....
